The PZL Bielsko SZD-9 Bocian ( Stork ) is a two-seater Polish training glider. The middle deck was made of wood/steel tubing. The Bocian is suitable for all types of gliding training including basic aerobatics. To this day, the SZD-9 Bocian is still used for training in some countries, for example in Poland and Germany. The abbreviation SZD (Szybowcowy Zakład Doświadczalny) roughly means glider development plant. The gliding index is 76.


The Bocian has extremely good-natured flight characteristics and climbs very well in thermals. The rudder is a bit undersized, so full deflections are often necessary. It's great for demonstrating a spin for training purposes, but is unlikely to go into a spin unintentionally. The well-sprung chassis survives hard landings. The airbrake effect is average.


The model corresponds to the original in all its properties and can also be flown *a little* faster for an oldie. Simple aerobatics are possible. However, peak loads should be avoided.


The Bocian 4.5m is an eye-catcher on every model airfield and, in addition to being towed, is also ideal for hand launching due to its low weight and powerful engine.


The pack size is only 2 m.
